OBAT 012_USA Moderation version 3.01

This is a modification of the USA Obat for WinSPMBT. This is a continuation of a project for SBCT (Stryker Brigade Combat Team) Brigades. In my search for technical data I ran across many TOE, OOB, and field manuals. I tried to make my changes as technically correct as possible. I did not get rid of any units, weapons, or formations. But did add some to fit what it tried to do.

I did update a few, remade some units and renamed others to help Identify and organize what was there.

I may not mention all my changes here so look around and see what you can see.

This is in no way a standard SPCAMO WinSPMBT OBAT but an alternative. This is also an unfinished project I just would like to know what people think and what anyone can add, positive or negative input welcome. After you see my changes I hope you think this is worth a look.

I have tried to back all my changes with official or an average of same specs from the web and US Govt information. Which have become slim after 9/11.

Nothing is set but, if you would like to know how I got what I did I will be glad to show you or point you in the area I found my information. I am just an enthusiast with no military involvement so if you were or are and I am wrong let me know, I would love to know why.

I have used various sources from the WinSPMBT community and the web, so if I do not mention something you think is yours then let me know.

I plan to update more soon.

ON TO THE CHANGES

I did not change current units or formations. All my modifications are new. Many of my unit changes are minor. I tried adding a realistic option with fire teams and weapons squads to units. I made two different 4 man fire teams, one normal and the other a support squad to differentiate each fire team. This adds realism for squad operations. This allows the addition of MMG and AT sections. This was important to making the units more accurate. I updated a few fire control and range finding numbers on some vehicles and units. I added new units to adjust a few available dates for a more accurate representation of that time. I updated a few formations with different units and names. I added and updated some weapons for more accurate range and HE effect (mainly infantry weapons, no super weapons). Most units are for my new SBCT formations so I renamed to allow players to see the differences from original WinSPMBT units. I have added numerous formations to adjust for weapon and vehicle availabilities. I have also added new units to add a new dimension to scenario building.

Also, you will need my other files for this to work or you will spend a great deal of time changing things like unit pics and icons.

So lets take a look, hopefully I name them all.

Units:

1. Added Lt Rifle Squads for light infantry platoon and company. To represent light units like the 10th Mountain.
2. Any unit with an ATGM was adjusted for FC and RF, specific by mounting. M901 got higher ratings than an externally mounted TOW launcher. I have to say that their sights are still better than WWII optics so I adjusted as so. Of course early 70s versions I left pretty basic.
3. Added a 3 man sniper team (starting in 2004) from my SBCT info with a sniper and heavy sniper rifle. Unit 739.
4. Added M2A0 BEV (Bradley Engineering Vehicle). This was to replace the old M728 CEV and M113A3 in the late 90s. It is basically a M2A3 to carry a small engineer squad and their equipment with more punch (without TOW launcher) and maneuverability. (And cheaper than a M1). It is classified as a Mine Clearing tank. Information on this is very limited but, I have come across a few mentions about it on the web. (New Original Icon).
5. Added SBCT Rifle Sqd to represent current outfitting. Unit 704. (Basically renamed Mech rifle squad and weapons change).
6. Added SBCT Fire Tm A (medium Mech infantry) to break Squads into 4 man fire teams for new formations.
7. Added SBCT Fire Tm B (Mech support squad) to break Squads into 4 man fire teams for new formations.
8. Added SBCT Wpn Sec to add MMG teams for new formations
9. Added M113A3 GL for engineer support vehicle and light support APC.
10. Added M1114 HMMWV HMG. Next generation HMMWV with heavy armor and higher survivability. Armed with .50 cal HMG. Delivered to recon and airborne units first.
11. Added M1114 HMMWV GL. Next generation HMMWV with heavy armor and higher survivability. Armed with 40mm AGL and pintle mounted M249 SAW. (As seen in Iraq). Delivered to recon and airborne units first.
12. Added a Stryker roller for mine clearing (and Icon).
13. Added a Stryker Plow for mine clearing (and Icon).
14. Reconfigured Stryker-MGS. According to DOD specs will have 18 round autoloader and 18 round reload with HE, sabot and HEAT rounds. Balanced as best I could.
15. Added Stryker FIST-V. Adjusted to carry FO squad.
16. Added new icon for M1126 Stryker and with slat armor. (relocated turret)
17. Added new icon for M1126 ICV-GL and with slat armor (relocated turret).
18. Added Mech Fire Tm A (Mech SMG Squad) to break Squads into 4 man fire teams for new formations.
19. Added Mech Fire Tm B (Mech Support Squad) to break Squads into 4 man fire teams for new formations.

24. Added M1134 ATGM and with slat armor ratings. (With icons).
25. Added M1131 FSV and with slat armor ratings. (Fire Support Vehicle) (With icons).
26. Added 2 new versions of M1128 and M1128+ for separate light cavalry and airborne light tanks.
27. Added M113A1 and M113A3 dozers for engineering formations.
28. Added Sapper Squads for the M2A0 BEV formations. (Smaller engineering squads).
29. Added AH-64D Longbow (Icon) from the UK Army MOD.
30. Added M-9 ACE and icon for a newer engineering vehicle. (Icon from UK Army MOD).
31. Added HMMWV Open (and icon) for different utility vehicle.

38. All squads (Mech, rifle, Airborne, engineers, pioneers, etc...) are adjusted to certain time periods for vision. (Ex: 70s 0 to 5, 80s - 5 to 10, 90s 10 to 15, 2000s - 15 to 20, etc...)
39. Adjusted many icons to try to suit units and match different zones (i.e.: desert, winter and green). Also to take advantage of new icons from the community. (A lot of HMMWV changes, also M113s.

NEW
52. Added icons for M113A3+Slat and M113A3GL+ SLAT.
53. Adjusted unit classes on some units for a better use of units. (mainly in the APC, IFV area). Changes M113 units to light APC and light support APC to allow to different units in a formation. (ex. with MG and with GL or Javlin). Reclassified M2's as APC (tracked) and M3's as GUN APC (tracked). This helped from an M113 being selected in a Mech unit. There should be an IFV classification but...
54. Made sure all units have the correct icons.

WEAPONS:

The changes to weapons are purely my view of how infantry weapons in SP series games are underrated and to get weapons of certain time periods as accurate as possible. I know troop ratings make up how a weapon does but, I feel the weapon makes a difference also. I gave Infantry weapons individual specs. Some slight differences, but that is what I think is close to reality. Differences in M14 and M16 were rate of fire and ammo size. This made the M16 more lethal at short ranges. As M16 improved so did HE kill and ranges. I hope I brought that to the game. Also I looked up every Max effective range and adjusted. Not MAX range, Max Effective. Since HE (powder) rounds usually aren't used at Max range, to me it would be useless. (I think M16 max range is something like 3000m, never heard anyone kill at that range. M16 family Max effective is between 600m and 800m, so that makes more sense to me.)

Additions were just some more modern weapons. (M16A4, M4A1, M4A1 SOPMOD, M8 SOPMOD)

Changes were mainly Accuracy, HE kill, range and certain names. (BAR to M1918A2 BAR, M1 to M1 Garand Rifle etc...) Check out renaming.

1. Added M4A1 SOPMOD and M4A1 series weapons. Mainly for Airborne, Ranger and some Mech and Rifle squads after the 2003 period. (IRAQ and Afghanistan). Improved accuracy simulating modern sights.
2. Added M16A4, though said to be in Iraq I don't think wide use will be until 2005. Improved accuracy and HE Kill to simulate new sights and improved weapon.
Why not M16A3? Could not find evidence of service wide use and it is just full auto version of A2. I did add a M16A4 LMG version just for kicks.
3. Renamed SMAW-D to M141 SMAW-D BDM. It is specified as a bunker demo missile (BDM) to be in service in late 2004 I think if not already.
4. Renamed M3 Carl Gustaf to M3 RAAWS. US Rangers are the only unit using it currently. I have seen reports where Army may also adopt next version.
5. Renamed 030 to M136 AT-4 LAW, when I looked up specs this one was closer to the actual AT-4 used recently so I adjusted for units in this time period. Original M136 was used mainly in the 90's and AT-4 is current improved version.
6. Added additional M8 family of weapons. M8 SOPMOD to replace M4 series, M8 LMG to replace squad M249 in some units. Lastly M8 LMG (2) for more squad SAW.
7. Added M21 Mrksmn Rfl for the new influence of squad designated marksman.
8. Added M24 Sniper rifle for newer sniper units.
NEW
9. Added M16A1 to separate original version M16.
10. Readjusted ACC and HEK values.

Formations:

Formations are where everything above comes into play. This is also the hardest to adjust and make realistic. It is hard to find exact unit TO&E and make it work in WinSPMBT.

My main additions started with the new Stryker Brigades. Their platoons and Companies are organized very differently than say units from 1981 to 2002. More integrated units. (Platoon HQ, three rifle squads and a wpns squad, Company HQ and vehicles, MGS Plt, mortar sec, sniper team, FO and vehicle) Mainly with the addition of the Stryker IFV family. Also with the new Three by Three organization. (Three platoons to three companies to three battalions to One SBCT). I broke the squads into two different fire teams and two different sections to make a platoon. This allowed me to also do this for the Mech units starting in 2001. I have added +AT and AT formations on this theory. I think my organization will give players more maneuverability and flexibility in designing scenarios. (Especially small unit or MOUT (Urban Warfare) scenarios). I have also broken most of these new formations into different years to represent certain changes. Also, I have included Veteran formations for certain time periods. (ex: after 91 to about 96 most units were veteran, after 96 (and Clinton cuts) units were back to regular status, again after 2001 most units are veteran units probably ending some where about 2007 when things in Iraq become less like a fight and more like just another rotation.).

On to the changes:

1. Added SBCT Mech Plt that is Lt Mech Plt (182) just renamed. This is from 2004 on with 3 SBCT rifle squads, 2 Stryker IFV, 2 Stryker GL and 3 ATGM units (javelins).
2. Added SBCT Mech Co that is Lt Mech Co (194) renamed. This includes LMC Spt 04 H, and MGS plt. The same formation but renamed.
3. Added SBCT Squad A. This is half of the platoon includes four fire teams and two Stryker ICV.
4. Added SBCT Squad B. This is the second half of the platoon includes two fire teams, two SBCT weapons sections (1 mmg team) and two Stryker ICV.
5. Added SBCT SPT 04. This is the Company level support units for the SBCT Company, 2 Co HQ ICV, Mortar squad (2 -120mm Stryker), Stryker FIST, FO, Sniper Team and IFV, and Ammo truck, organized to reflect realism.
6. Added SBCT AT Plt. 3 Stryker-ATGW vehicles.
7. Added SBCT MGS Pltn. 3 Stryker MGS vehicles. (If you haven't noticed everything in SBCT is in threes).
8. Added SBCT Mech Co 04. This is my reworked Company. Includes SBCT SPT 04, SBCT MGS Pltn (3 MGS), 3 SBCT Squad A, 3 SBCT Squad B, and SBCT AT Plt.
9. Added Ind SBCT Plt 04. This is a platoon with my SBCT squads much like Ind Mech Platoon.
10. Added SBCT AT Co. 1 Stryker IFV and 3 Platoons of Stryker TOW.
11. Added SBCT Eng Pl. This is an engineer platoon with 3 assault squads and 2 SBCT Wpn Sec and the SBCT roller and plow I added. (Above)
12. Added Mech Sect 01. This is the same as Mech Sect H but with Mech Fire Tm A, Mech Fire Tm B and Mech wpn sec. These are named for the year the units starts (01, 03, 08) and are further named for having ATGM (+) or without ATGM (-) but, with mmg sections. (Ex: Mech Sec 01 AT, Mech Sec 03 +AT, Mech Sec 08 AT).
13. Added Mech INF Co 01, includes use of Mech Sect 01. These are named and organized as the above sections are. (Ex: Mech Co 01 AT, Mech Co 03 +AT, Mech Sec 08 AT). These date changes have a lot to do with weapon changes in the squads and experience of time.
14. Added Ind Mech Pl 01. Modified with Mech fire teams and weapons teams and also with or without ATGM. Also named by years. (ex: 04 and 08)
15. Added Sapper Platoon. This is the new engineer platoon with the new M2A0 BEV. Has 3 sapper squads (6 men), 1 MMG sec (4 men), 1 flash team (2 men) and 4 BEV.
16. Added Lt Inf Rifle Plt. Light infantry platoon differs in organization. No ATGMs in platoon. Good for 10th Mountain Division.
17. Added Lt Inf Rifle Co. It has 3 platoons, a 60mm mortar sec and 2 ATGM sec. Good for 10th Mountain Division.
18. Added RSTA platoon. This is the new Recon unit with the Stryker vehicles, 3 (4 man) scout teams and 2 Javelin teams. Each Stryker is supposed to be equipped with 2 Javelin ATGMs but I could not fit that many under the current unit count in WinSPMBT so I gave two with 4 missiles each.
19. Added RSTA Troop with 2 Stryker IFV, 3 platoons, a SP mortar squad, and a FIST-V vehicle.
20. Added Cav Suprt Pltn, this includes 1 M3, a FIST-V, 2 SP mortars, 2 ammo carriers, 2 Vulcan AA vehicles, and 2 Linebackers. This unit was just to add support units in one controllable organization.
21. Added CAV MGS pltn.
22. Added Veteran Cav Troops. These are to represent years after Gulf War and during OIF. This includes Lt Cav Troops, tank sections and scout sections also. These are just for scenario or play testing.
23. Reorganized Cav Troops so tank sections and scout sections alternate by platoon like in real troops. 1st platoon scouts, 2nd platoon tanks, 3rd platoon scouts, 4th platoon tanks.
24. Added Veteran Mech Inf and Armored platoons and companies.
25. Changed error in Urban MBT Co. It originally had formation 1012 which are normal MBT platoon.
26. Added Veteran Urban MBT platoons and companies.
27. Added a Mech INF Co 73, which was a special H version MTOE for all stateside Mech (M113) companies designated to be part of the RDF (Rapid Deployment Force). The main changes were 3 Mech platoons and a Mech Wpns Pltn which included 3 M125 SP mortars and 2 M901 ITVs.
28. Added Mech Wpns Pltn. This adds the above units at the Company level.
29. Added Combat Suprt CO which was at the Battalion level along with HHC and other support units. This contained a Mech Scout platoon, the Heavy Mortar platoon, and 2 Mech AT sections. (The battalion would have 5 companies, A, B, C, HHC and CSC.) <All info comes from Dragons at War - Land Battle in the Desert by Daniel P. Bolger>.
30. Added Mech Scout Pltn. This was the main Btln scout unit. It had 3 scout teams, 3 M113 APCs (I included M113 ACAVs through 1979), and 3 M901 ITV.
31. Added Hvy Mortar Pltn. This included 4 M106 SP Mortar vehicles.
32. Added Mech AT Section. This included 6 M901 ITVs. (This gave M113 Mech Co strong AT capabilities in the face of the M2 Bradley and M1 Abrams being supplied to European units.)
33. Added Transport Plt which I made to carry rifle and light rifle platoons. It includes 1 M1026 HMMWV, 1 HMMWV-MMG (+), 2 2 - Ton AAMG trucks.
34. Added Transport CO to carry rifle and light rifle companies. It includes 1 M1026, 1 HMMWV-MMG, 1 HMMWV-HMG, 2 Transport platoons. These are just my versions not related to any official TOE.
35. Added Para SBCT Co 05. This is for the new Airborne SBCT that the 82nd will be adopting. It includes 3 platoons in Strykers, a MGS platoon, a recon (HMMWV) platoon, an AT platoon (Stryker), and other support units (mortars, FIST, Snipers etc). All info off the web.
36. Added PARA SBCT Pl 05. Includes 3 Para rifle squads, 1 Para mmg section, 2 Para AT team, 2 M1126 and 2 M1126-GL. This is rough early organization to get mmgs and atgm team (1 short) included.
37. Added ABN MGS Pltn. (3 airborne MGS).
38. Added Abn Recon Pl 05. Includes 3 airborne scout teams, 3 M1114 HMMWV HMG and 3 M1114 HMMWV GL.
39. Added Abn A/T Pl 05. Includes 3 HMMWV TOW or you can choose M1134 Stryker ATGM vehicle. (Will most likely have M1134 but you can choose).
40. Added ABN SBCT Spt 05. This includes the FIST vehicle, FO, Sniper, 2 120mm SP mortar vehicles, a 60mm mortar and an ammo truck. (Very similar to standard SBCT support units but, with an Airborne twist).
41. I added some Company Team formations for better C&C in scenarios. I believe this may solve when trying to make a mixed unit and cross attaching units. You can get a Mech heavy company without buying 2 Mech platoons and a MBT platoon and all of them are commanded by the btln HQ not a CO HQ. These formations are also + or ATGM. Here they are.
I have made as many combinations as I could come up with.
1. Armor Hvy Tm +, 2 MBT and 1 Mech Platoons.
2. Mech Hvy Tm +, 2 Mech and 1 MBT Platoon.
3. Urban MBT TM, 2 Urban MBT and 1 Sapper Platoon.
4. Urban Sapper TM, 2 Sapper and 1 Urban MBT Platoon.
5. Mech Urban Tm, 2 Mech (-) and 1 Urban MBT platoon.
6. Armor Urban Tm, 2 Urban MBT and 1 Mech (-) platoon.
42. Added SBCT Co 04+MGS. This is a variation to my SBCT CO 04 with M1128 MGS integrated into the platoons.
43. Added SBCT Squad A* and SBCT Squad B*. Includes one MGS per Platoon.
44. Added Ind SBCT Pl+MGS. Adds a MGS to the Platoon.

NEW
45. Airmob Pl [M] to simulate the 1st of the 506th (Air Assault) being transformed to a Motorized unit.
46. Airmob Co [M] to simulate the 1st of the 506th (Air Assault) being transformed to a Motorized unit.
47. Updated various formations that were not working correctly after some of my changes.

This is most of the changes I have made. Remember this is a work in progress so if you don't like it that is OK, if you like something feel free to use them yourself. I would appreciate knowing what is liked and not liked.

These changes are for personal use since it is not a standard Obat and may not work with other scenarios because WinSPMBT freaks when it cannot find original information. Also, others may not be able to play a scenario made with this OOB. They would need to have it themselves. If you like this and want to share your scenarios with others tell them to put this one in or post them stating you used this Obat and I will be glad to try them.

Good luck and have fun!!!!

Gooseman.
